how do you know how which writer writes Cas? like "this writer writes cas like ____". I feel this is necessary information I must know for the future. Deets! (to be honest, Edlund was my favorite writer and Cas writer hbu)
asked by Anonymous

microcomets:

{opinions are stated here. you’ve been properly warned.}

edlund: ahh man i love edlund’s cas. he seems to understand like…the poetic balance of his character? like he understands both the peaceful and the rebellious side of cas and usually focuses on his struggles with agency and how he’s fundamentally different from other angels. he usually gets the perfect balance of writing cas with gravitas (as a character with inherent importance) and enough slightly-off humor to make him endearing. uwu.

berens: kind of similar to edlund. understands cas on a fundamental level and writes him with his own motivations; understands cas’ love and connection to humanity and also his obligation and love for his own family. his cas eps i thought were the strongest of this season (9.06 and 9.14) where we were actually given some interiority into cas’ struggles as a human and his struggles with morality in trying to organize the angels.

thompson: i’ve talked with some people about this and like, i really really like robbie thompson as a person and a writer and i think he really likes cas but i don’t think he really understands cas. usually he writes him as a little too quirky for my taste? but i think he fundamentally understands cas’ love and affection for the winchesters but i usually find the humor to be a little light and off. (8.17 cas calling his head a “noodle,” or comparing humanity to a peanut butter sandwich in 9.11. i think some people might like that but i find it a little ooc)

dabb: dabb is like kind of shitty in some regards (women. i mean women.) but he’s actually a relatively strong writer for cas? like he almost always focuses on cas’ loyalty and protectiveness of dean in his episodes. dabb is one of the most deancas-centric cas writers i think? he also understands that cas is his own person with his own history and motivations (like when he got pissed at gadreel in 9.10, etc) which is always good.

buckner/ross-lemming: the worst. the fucking worst. don’t understand cas at all, make him into a dudebro with dudebro humor when they can, or they forego correct characterization for the sake of moving forward plot (asking dean to torture just to have an episode conflict will like forever be on my shitlist for multiple reasons). literal no conception of who cas actually is. retconning x10. -20/10. the fucking worst.

carver: generally pretty good cas writer? usually writes him with his own motivations and treats him like an actual character and not a plot device. 5.03 is one of my favorite eps and i think he really nails cas in that one. ;u;

glass: has written one episode with cas and i think he generally doesn’t give a shit about him

klein: has also written one episode with cas and focused on cas watching porn for humor so i don’t trust her (i lied she’s written 2 with cas and in both focused on cas/porn for humor. double nope.)

I want season 10 to be the last.

Something is fucking wrong with the Supernatural fandom.

AND I NEED EVERYONE IN THE SPN FANDOM TO READ THIS.

We’ve become a bunch of fucking rude, disrespectful assholes.

I don’t care if you’re a nice person and have 15k followers.

That’s a number.

And being nice, what? To those who…

CAN I JUST SAY SOMETHING

Apparently, 9x03 brought on a lot of “butthurt” and “wank”, mostly because of how Cas’ gender was interpreted (Hey man, just because he did it with a girl, doesn’t mean he won’t do it with a guy. Sexuality is fluid. Anything is possible). Some people claim that this alleged “interpretation” apparently cancels out Destiel being canon.

I would just like to point out the scenes above.

I’ve always maintained that Destiel has been canon since Mary Winchester told Dean (while still in her womb) that angels were watching over him. It’s been canon since Cas pulled Dean out of hell. It’s been canon since Cas gave everything for Dean. It’s been canon since Dean overturned purgatory looking for Cas. And it’s been canon since Dean and Cas pretty much renounced God and turned to each other.

The whole appeal of Destiel is that they have this certain je ne sais quoi between them that is definitely deeper and more profound than most other relationships. Their bond transcends sex and “I love you’s”. It transcends physical intimacy and romanticism. Their bond is “I kept your trenchcoat for you”, “I need you”, “I’ll die for you” and “I’ll give up everything for you”.

Having sex with someone doesn’t always automatically make that someone the most important thing in your life. Having sex with someone doesn’t automatically cancel out every meaningful relationship you’ve ever had thus far.

I don’t think Destiel shippers should be threatened with the events of 9x03, because Dean and Cas’ relationship isn’t about that. Cas was just simply discovering aspects of humanity. And it’s fine.

The only time you should feel threatened is if Dean or Cas decide to do the emotional eye fuck with someone else. Because that is signature Destiel.
(And if said emotional eye fuck includes promises of devotion and salvation)

Also, if you’re going to force Dean and Cas out of their “comfort zone” or “normal zone” (which is personal space distance bordering on intimate space distance without actually touching) by saying that you want them to make out or say “I love you” or some sappy shit that they would never say to each other because that would be out of character, just because you want to prove to the world that you’re not delusional and that there IS something going on there…
I’m going to request you not to do that, because I think that is a petty reason to want that and is not worth the compromise in their current relationship.

Fuck the world. If they don’t see it, it’s not your job to give them glasses. It’s their loss, not yours.

So I was talking about spn with my friend, and a random girl overheard and asked if it was biblical. She had heard the name Ezekiel and remembered it from confirmation class at a Catholic church. She then said that Ezekiel was an angel that fought on Lucifer’s side.

I think I’m gonna cry

I am crying.

This is why we can’t have nice things.

[vehemently doesn’t like the idea of cas kissing april in next week’s episode not because it’s a girl nor because it’s not dean but because it seems rushed and hasty and unimportant and that’s not was cas deserves for his first love/sexual experience]

Castiel and Dean are separated in Season 9 and so we’ll see the two characters not interact as much. To make matters worse, Castiel gets terribly lost and gets even FURTHER away from Dean. We’ll see the two finally meet up in Season 10 of Supernatural or maybe 11… This show is successful enough to pull it out to 12 seasons or more.
